The Luceno Origins Project

Family Tree

All Lucenos today appear to descend from one of two branches.

The Giuseppantonio Branch

One branch descends from the couple Giuseppantonio Lucenó and Catarina Vasta.

Giuseppantonio and Catarina had at least two children: Maria Lucenó (born about 1760) and Saverio Lucenó (born about 1761). It is unknown whether Maria had children, but many of the Lucenos from Bayonne, NJ, Mamaroneck, NY, and Toronto, Ontario can trace their ancestry back to Saverio.

Giuseppantonio’s year of birth is unknown, but given the year of birth of his oldest confirmed child, he could not have been born later than about 1742.

The Francesco Branch

The other branch descends from the couple Francesco Lucenó and Rosa Ciracó.

Francesco and Rosa had at least one child, Vitantonio Lucenó (born about 1764). With his wife Maria Laghani, Vitantonio had at least one child, Saverio Lucenó, born about 1795. Some Mamaroneck Lucenos and all Lucenos from Schuylkill, PA are descended from Vitantonio through his son Saverio.

Francesco’s year of birth is unknown, but given the year of birth of his oldest confirmed child, he could not have been born later than about 1746.

The problem: how were Giuseppantonio and Francesco related?

The relationship between Giuseppantonio and Francesco is currently unknown—although Y-DNA testing can provide the answer.
